First, a warning. We have been warning everyone NOT to walk through the construction areas. Yesterday, one of our crew received a serious, but not life threatening injury when something fell from a floor above. He is younger than most of us and will be fine. If it was one of us.............. The contractor's insurance covers him and they called out an OSHA safety team to do an inspection. They ran a safety reminder workshop for the crew today.
Now a reminder. I mentioned this last year, but it is time to do it again. Last year Gail and I had construction going on while we were here. There is no way to stop dust from coming through every corner, crack or opening. We cleaned everyday at 4 PM when work stopped. For those of you who are planning to come down soon, I would strongly recommend that you get someone to clean before you get here. Your unit watcher should arrange for a cleaning service. If they don't know anyone, let them check with Ali. She has a few services who have worked for us and done a good job.
Now for weekly updates.
1-Our parking deck is nearing completion. The final coat may be applied this weekend. Then all that remains is the painting of lines, a few wall repairs and the installation of parking bumpers.
2-Stack 7 continues with shutter installation. They are using only 1 crew for this so the rest of the job continues to progress.
3-Stack 8 has the wood coming out of the 2 doors that had been removed. Doors are going back in. 5 floors are being checked for approval to place new concrete. The front of the building, stack 8 windows is almost done with stucco, and then they can stucco the "eyelids." A resupply of stucco was just delivered. One balcony on stack 8 was being worked on and they found the following:
a-rusted screws holding the railing and the shutters.
b-the concrete was wet all the way through the balcony deck.
c-there is a hole in the middle of the deck concrete that cannot be seen. It is below the surface and has not yet eaten all the way through the bottom!
d-after telling you all of that, you won't be surprised to know that the reinforcing steel rebar is all rusted as well. As the engineer said to me, "The Board had great timing getting this project started."
4-The power connection and a new motor were completed on the swing stage on stack 1. Work will continue there shortly.
Stay safe.
