-FYI-Ali will be out today and tomorrow. I hope she will be back Monday.
-Not having a parking spot close to the building does not qualify as an "Emergency." Don't call the emergency number repeatedly to report it. We are under construction. This is a temporary condition. There is street parking on SE 13th St. We have told you that many times. Gail and I have parked there many times as well. It is a short walk.
-Speaking of parking, let me start with an update on the 2nd floor of the garage. The intermediate deck coating is being done. The top coat will then follow. It will need some time to set and dry. It is almost done.
-Stack 6 is in the final phase of inspection. 2 balconies require minor repairs and 5 units could not be checked due to no keys being available to the inspector. If Ali is back on Monday she will locate those 5 keys. The other 9 units have passed their final inspections.
-Stack 7 balconies need to be washed and the re-installation of shutters, for those of you who want them back, will begin.
-Stack 8 has 2 units with sliding doors removed. The engineer will give the contractor his excavation limits and work will begin. They are trying to concentrate on 2 to 3 at a time so as to limit the inconvenience to a shorter period of time. The front of the building on stack 9 is continuing with the "eyelids." The engineer found a construction flaw with the original construction. The steel rebar that holds the "eyelids" were not correctly placed. They were too close to the edges of the 4500 pound slab of concrete in the eyelid. That could have caused unnecessary cracking. Thank goodness those slabs never fell off of the building! The old rebar is being removed so that new rebar can be properly placed. This should extend the life of that concrete by avoiding unnecessary cracking over time.
-The fire tower on the east side of the building, aka, the trash chutes, is currently under construction. 1/2 of the railings have been removed and wooden barricades installed so that you can still safely dispose of trash. Concrete repairs in those small alcoves are being done and we are expecting the railing contractor in about 2 weeks to be able to install the new railings. Then the next 1/2 will be done.
-Stack 2 is on hold for a short time. The foreman does not want to spread his workers too thin so that jobs take longer than they should. I wish they had done that on mine! We had that wooden wall for just under 6 months! I have to thank Pete Wilsens, our VP for convincing the contractor to switch the foreman last year.
